In 2003, Ferenc gave birth to a monster entitled 'Yes sir I can hardcore' paving the way for a new sound that Tiefschwarz, Blackstrobe and many others would later adapt excessively to their own music to create sure-fire hits.
These well intended creations raised a monument for the almost forgotten early 90's style pioneered by Frankie Bones, early Joey Beltram, How & Little, NuGroove, City Limits, etc. They were a tribute to Brooklyn Hardcore - the hardest dance music of that period. But those times are over...and it's high time to go back to the future! Ferenc are Maxi Ruiz & Fra Soler - two of the most important producers and hardest working promoters in the Spanish Techno music community.
Beyond being part of the organisation for the annual Primavera Sound Festival, and also at one of the best clubs ever: the Nitsa @ Apolo based in Barcelona. Fra Soler has been the resident dj there for over 8 years now and many refer to him as a walking encyclopedia as far as Techno and club music is concerned and it proves right in his DJ sets.
Soler manages to combine the past 15 years of club music into a refreshingly complex eclecticism that retains a homogeneous quality throughout his sets. As a taste-maker and responsible for bringing in talent regularly to the Nitsa, Soler is respected as one to recognize and support up-and-coming trends in club music but to veer away from the temporary sensationalists that exist in dance music as he feels that these new movements are part of a greater whole.
Ferenc's debut full length Fraximal presents a successful result of this story, spiced up with new anecdotes. By using sophisticated arrangements, a subtle selection of sounds and endless quotes and references, Ferenc creates a romantic approach to Techno music provoking warmth and emotion under a completely upfront sound surface within the vivacity of the bass drum. At times epic, sometimes wild, occasionally yearning, and obviously introspective, Ferenc always lean fervently to the dance floor.
A perfect example of Ferenc's success in achieving (dare we say) coziness in Techno can be found in 'Vinagreta' which features a cameo appearance of Paris-based Techno queen Jennifer Cardini. This wonderful (and this has to be referenced here) Balearic Techno-House track simply falls apart in the middle as the bass drum is denied in favor of one of the most beautiful summer-fuelled love songs ever.
Tracks like 'Nitsa is 11' and 'Sandia' are certain to thrill anyone who can spell Border Community or have found themselves united with their soul on the dancefloor while experiencing Choice's 'Acid Eiffel'. Good people make good music and as far as this album is concerned, Ferenc prove themselves beyond words.
Fraximal is an outstanding debut album that communicates Techno passionately in all its horizons to be experienced just as well in the club or on your sofa at home.
After two years of creative pause our favourite Catalans are back on Kompakt. Ferenc didn't exactly flood the market with their releases since their project came to life in 1999. In nine years they've released only nine records - if all the other producers would have kept it low-key like that, the vinyl market would still be in great shape... ;)
The main reason for their sparse output should be Fra's busy schedule as resident DJ and programmer of the legendary NITSA@APOLO Club in Barcelona as well as his excellent programming work for Primavera Sound festival. He's an acknowledged walking enzyclopedia of music of all sorts. A man like him still honours the act of releasing a record. With ?Zambomba? Ferenc delivered nothing short than a bomb.
With all that house rennaisance going on these days, their trademark amalgamation of wild pitch house, the good side of trance and classic techno is more in demand than ever. ?Zambomba? is the perfect peak time weapon. On the flipside, Ferenc take a more restrained approach, focussing more on the groove and occasional CO2 canon breaks, you know, those ?Ssshhhh? sounds that cut our brains in two halves on every second track these days.
Ferenc take this swish from hell to the next level by just makin it three times as loud and four times as long as anyone else before. You want ?Ssshhhhh?? You'll get ?SSSSHHHHHHHHH?!
